Play (outside) from home

Play (outside) from home

We’re working from home and the kids are playing from home. Emmy has some online classes and worksheets but Thomson doesn’t. So instead of homeschooling, it has become more of sibling bootcamp. I have decided that as long as they’re happy, fed and spending quality time with them - it’s a success.

We spent the day today setting up the backyard with a few upgrades for playing outside more. The kids are loving it so far! It’s 4pm and they have not left the backyard other than to pee.

  1. Lifetime Geometric Playdome - This is available at both Costco and Amazon. We are both huge fans of Lifetime so it was an easy choice. Zero maintenance required. They can both do their favorite activity of hanging upside down and doing some monkey bars. Took about 1+ hours for two adults to assemble.

  2. Hammock +hammock stand - Our hammock is less of a cocoon and more of “couch”. It is no longer available at REI but this is the closest one I could find.

  3. Lifetime picnic table - Best for kids 6 and under. We take this out every single summer and since it’s foldable have also taken it to parties. Very durable!

  4. Kids adirondack garden chairs - This is the little tikes one but we got ours from Kohls.

Some other ideas that we will continue to consider as the shelter-in-place unfolds.

  1. 12’ Merax Trampoline - If our yard was any bigger, this probably would’ve been our first choice.

  2. Archery Set - Frankly I’m waiting for Decathlon’s set to come back in stock since they have a well priced kids version.

  3. Zume portable badminton set - this one is super well rated and comes highly rated from a co-worker. For an indoor set for kids, consider “GoodMinton” - the easiest racquet game on the planet! We just got our set and it’s fun for all ages including my mom!

  4. Pro swing ball - Tennis trainer for ages 6+. Currently debating between the badminton net set and the pro swing ball

  5. 2-in-1 Baseball and Tennis pitching machine set

  6. Amazon Basics pop-up soccer goal training set - our backyard isn’t deep enough for this (with the Dome now occupying a large portion of space)

  7. And finally for the golf enthusiast, the Rukket Pop Up Golf Chipping Net (Clubs not included)

Hope you enjoyed all these ideas for how to stay active right from our backyards!
